چکیده

This paper describes the first investigations carried out at ETH Zurich on the very-high resolution optical satellite sensor WorldView-1. The dataset includes a stereopair acquired in 2007 over Morrison, Colorado, USA. The pair consists of a quasi-nadir scene with mean GSD close to 51cm and an off-nadir scene, with GSD up to 73cm. We show our first results of exploiting Digital Surface Modeling (DSM) and of evaluating the potential of the images for 3D city modeling using the software CyberCity-Modeler, in terms of level of detail. Here, special attention was dedicated to the DSM generation using the software package SAT-PP (Satellite Image Precision Processing) and the accuracy assessment by visual and quantitative analysis with respect to reference data derived from aerial images.

Evaluation of Worldview-1 Stereo Scenes

This paper describes the investigations carried out at ETH Zurich on the very-high resolution optical satellite sensor WorldView-1. The dataset includes a stereopair acquired in November 2007 over Morrison, Colorado, USA, consisting of a quasi-nadir scene with mean GSD close to 51cm and an off-nadir scene, with GSD up to 73cm. The radiometry of the images was evaluated through the estimation of...

3D modeling of large urban areas with stereo VHR satellite imagery: lessons learned

This paper discusses the potentials of very high-resolution (VHR) stereo imagery for automatic generation of digital surface models (DSM) and 3D information extraction on large metropolitan cities. Stereo images acquired by GeoEye-1 on Dakar (Senegal) and Guatemala City (Guatemala) and by WorldView-2 on Panama City (Panama), Constitucion (Chile), Kabul (Afghanistan), Teheran (Iran), Kathmandu (...

3D Hand Motion Evaluation Using HMM

Gesture and motion recognition are needed for a variety of applications. The use of human hand motions as a natural interface tool has motivated researchers to conduct research in the modeling, analysis and recognition of various hand movements. In particular, human-computer intelligent interaction has been a focus of research in vision-based gesture recognition. In this work, we introduce a 3-...

Using WorldView-1 Stereo Data with or without Ground Control P Automatic DEM Generation

The successful operation of the WorldView-1 satellite has enabled advanced high-accuracy mapping using high-resolution satellite images, with or without the use of ground control points (GCPs). The stereo capability of the WorldView-1 sensor also provides the opportunity to extract high-resolution digital elevation models (DEMs). This article will examine the effectiveness of automatic DEM extr...

Geometric and Mapping Potential of Worldview-1 Images

The geometric resolution of space images has been improved. With WorldView-1 and GeoEye-1 images taken from space with 0.5m ground sampling distance (GSD) are now available. The Bosphorus Engineering Consultancy Services Inc (BIMTAS), company of Istanbul Greater Municipality ordered a WorldView-1 image, covering large parts of Istanbul city. For the orientation and investigation of the scene ac...
